Usman Suleiman Waziri
Usman Suleiman Waziri is the first recipient of “PRESIDENT OF THE DECADE” award by the Vice-Chancellor and Dean Students Affairs of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria while serving as the SUG/SRC President.
He is a public speaker, social entrepreneur, and a youth leader with vested interest in community development, policy building/advocacy and women/youth inclusion in politics, governance, and public service.
He was the 2017 and 2018 Enactus National Champion and represents Nigeria at the Enactus World Cup London 2017 and Silicon Valley, San Jose, California U.S.A 2018 consecutively.
As the team lead of Enactus ABU, he executed the “HOPE RISING PROJECT” which tackled the after effect of lead poisoning in Zamfara state through the use of locally sourced materials like coconut shell to produce bio-tech filters for water purification, cleanse the land of lead contamination through phyto-remediation using Jatropha plant and also introduced soilless farming called aqua-ponies to address food insecurity and enhance job creation while actualizing the sustainable development goal 1,2,3,6,8,11,12,13 and 17.
He serves as the project head of “Project SMS” a project that focused on up cycling of plastics and LDPE’s (Pure water sachets) into wax then shoe polish, a venture used to empower the internally displaced persons to be financially independent in partnership with life builders Initiative.
Due to his outstanding leadership and impact he recorded through entrepreneurship, he was elected the President of the apex student union body on campus known as Students Representative Council in Ahmadu Bello University (ABUSRC) where he delivered lots of value-driven programs and exceptional projects to enhance students welfarism and support academic excellence within the university environment.
Usman is the organizer and convener of the maiden ABUSRC leadership workshop and entrepreneurship summit, one of the biggest students based entrepreneurial and leadership events where over 10,000 young people received training on various skills acquisition with focus on the contemporary skill sets, financial independence and value-driven leadership.
He is a graduate of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, a member of 1 girl 1 pad campaign and head of impact assessment for a project that target’s the menstrual hygiene of young girls and internally displaced women called “Project Amina”.
In 2019, he was one of the 14 speakers at the TEDx ABU event, he also tops the list of 100 most influential ABUSITES in 2019 by the Directorate of University Advancement ABU Zaria and a recipient of various leadership and entrepreneurial awards.
